I met Joe Sakic, I met Joe Sakic! [what you're missing is the melody and the happy dance that is accompanying this chant] Here’s what happened.. I’m working retail part-time for X-mas (yeah, i know, a sure fire killer for the christmas spirit). I work at Restoration Hardware, which is not bad. The long time employees told me lots of the Avalanche players have shopped there, but I’m thinking I’ll never see them. Surely, they stay away at christmas, when it’s always packed -especially the way they’ve been playing lately, people might not be so friendly. So I was pretty excited earlier this week when Jeff Shantz wife came in and I had a little conversation with her about how great Calgary is. Then when she came in again two days later and bought more stuff, I talked to her some more but became resentful realizing that my assumptions were correct.. their wives have nothing better to do than to shop. But most people here don’t even know who he is since he’s new, and they certainly wouldn’t be interested in his wife. In her defense, she was very nice. But who cares.. I met Joe Sakic, I met Joe Sakic! I saw him as soon as he walked in and me and another girl were being school girls and trying to decide who should “greet” him.. “no, you go. ” no, you go.” “hee, hee, hee” And he walked up to us. He was in the market for an apple peeler. (??) My co-worker told him that we had no such thing and recommended Williams Sonoma. He politely thanked us and left and I scolded her for sending him away! Okay.. this isn’t much of an encounter, but I’m sorry.. it was very exciting for me! Now we’ve spent the whole evening analyzing this “apple peeler” issue. (a) Can’t he just pay somebody to peel his apples?” (b) did he really make a special trip to the mall for an apple peeler (c) is there such a thing as an apple peeler? then i decided that i would add an apple peeler to my on-line wish list, so next time I see Joey (that’s what I call my buddy Joe Sakic), I can say Yo, Joe, I heard you needed one of these. (followed by “Now how about scoring a goal or two chief? Those pucks aren’t aren’t just gonna put themselves in the net.”) Oh yeah! I have a
