my resume
Tonight on the season finale of Law & Order they mentioned the smoking gun.com. It’s like two of my worlds colliding. It’s like having Goran Visnjic play for the Avalanche. Okay.. it’s nothing like that at all – nothing could be that good.
My boyfriend showed me this article about how Buddhists are happier than the rest of us. To which I said:
i’m ready to sign up.
i think i’d look good in their orange robe thing – i’m an “autumn”.
and i am totally willing to shave my head – no more gray roots and split ends is enough to increase my happiness significantly.
It actually says that ” Buddhists were less likely to be shocked, flustered, surprised or as angry as other people.” But what is funny is how many times they used the words, they “really” are happier, like before they had this clinical proof they thought the monks were just faking it or just acting happy to annoy the rest of us. Americans really are arrogant aren’t we?
Oh.. so my new job.. I’m working at Costco. Which reminds me, I really should be working on my resume now because as much as I bitch about corporate america, office politics, and cubicles – manual labor is for.. well not for me. Other than the physical demands it’s pretty okay, and it pays okay.
Anyway, just for fun, here is a list of all the jobs I have ever had, in semi-chronological order, to the best of my recollection, which is not going to be easy since i started working when i was 15 and i’m like really, really old now. Here goes:
Wicks ‘n Sticks
The Sage Room (restaraunt)
Sonic (that only lasted about 3 weeks)
Claire’s Boutique
International Delights (deli)
Internship with a parole officer (but that was unpaid)
The Sharper Image
Contempo Casuals
Hale Kipa (youth shelter)
80% Straight (that was fun)
The Wave Waikiki
Cheap Tickets
Ram Paging
Aston Hotels
Substitute teaching
Veri-check (i’m actually not sure that’s what it was called)
Alert Alarm
The Edison Diner (my first job in NJ – it lasted about 3 weeks)
PNC Bank
ABR Benefits
MCorp
XRT
Restoration Hardware
and finally Costco
That’s all I can remember but I feel like I’ve forgotten at least one or two.
24 jobs – is that a lot for some one who’s 33? It feels like a fuckin’ lot. Now I know why I feel ready for retirement. And let’s see, in all that I was laid off twice, of course it was the two times when I was getting paid a lot and almost liked my job. And I was fired twice – but in one of those cases it was a clear case of wrongful termination which is why they settled out of court. I probably shouldn’t mention any names here, but it was spelled m-c-o-r-p. They also happen to win the award for absolute worst place to work – ever! Or at least the worst of the 24 places at which I have personal experience.
