No, YOU Shut Up!

smashed pennies and smushed snakes

Wow! I can’t believe it’s been a month. Especially since it feels like the sweltering summer is slowly eeking by. Let’s see.. what have I been up to???
Actually about 14,000 feet - we went to the top of Pike’s Peak. And I have to say, for your leisurely type, typical summer vacation activity, it’s pretty freakin’ stressful! 20 miles each way, a two-hour round trip, and the road is much less civilized than I expected. I’ve driven mountain roads before obviously but this was damn scary. The summit is not for the faint of heart either, and I mean that literally ‘cause I have pulse issues (my resting heart rate is usually about 110 – also damn scary) and my heart was pounding. You feel woozy, and kind of hung over, and really smushed; and by smushed I mean you can actually feel the pressure and it’s truly not pleasant. And I can’t say much for the view either. It’s really too expansive to have much of an impact, so it was like “nice view, let’s go.” What did make it worth the climb – claiming two geocache’s at the top that not many people get to, and a smashed penny that not everybody has. I am soo in to my smashed pennies now. Have I ever mentioned my smashed penny collection? Hmm.. one of these days I’ll do an entry just listing all the pennies I have.
Oh, and speaking of geocaching.. I fell on a snake!! Yes, he was fine. I have to say that right away because everyone I tell this story immediately asks – “was the snake okay?” or says “poor snake.” I was leaving our own very muddy cache when I saw him and in my attempt to quickly jump over him – bam! Down I went, and up I came with mud from my elbow to my ankle on one side. See why caching is so much fun?!
That’s about all I’ve been up to aside from avoiding the heat, and watching the summer season on tv – whatever happened to reruns anyway? I actually think in some cases they are a better alternative than some of the crap they’re serving up. Regardless, of it’s crap-tastic-ness I feel compelled to watch and then of course to post my opinions, aka complaints here. But I guess I should start a new entry for that since I’m likely to go on and on and on and on and on. So tune in next time…
