Well, we did go to the drive in this weekend but the movies were so bad they don’t even rate an actual review so all I’m gonna say is, two remakes and a spoof make for a terrible triple feature: “the Pink Panther” was bad (but okay, we chuckled a few times), “Date Movie” was awful, and “The Hills Have Eyes” was unwatchable we actually left early! Fortunately we still had a great time. How is that possible? See rule #2, formerly rule #1 from previous post. Suky went with us and while three girls and a dog makes for a crowded CRV, between the giggling and the junk food it was like a grown-up (and i use the term extremely loosely), mobile pajama party. Yes, of course we wear our pajamas to the drive in, duh! And did I mention, brrrrrrrr it was cold! But at least it wasn’t raining.

Since I’m already on the topic of poor excuses for entertainment.. I thought it might be fun to list, in no particular order, the tv shows that I watch even tho I don’t like them. If possible I’ll even try and explain why.

“The Real World” - the original reality tv show. from episode one of season one i was totally sucked in. i loved norm and andre! it was actually one of the first things m & i bonded over. season two, dominic’s alcoholism was strangely endearing tho terribly stereotypical, and who could turn away from the trainwreck that was beth. season three, i could still be brought to tears over pedro, i still hate puck with a passion, and i’m still happy that pam & jud are still together (if they’re not, don’t tell me). from there, however it was all downhill. i couldn’t watch for a couple of seasons because the death of pedro left me traumatized, and it was never the same again. i probably didn’t watch more than a few episodes here and there until hawaii which i watched because i’ll watch anything filmed in hawaii - it’s fun to see the places we hung out and still get homesick for. And while the colin / amaya affair was entertaining it was nothing compared to ruthie’s downward spiral and krazy kaia. but why can i still easily get involved even tho i do nothing but curse the vapid overgrown teenage drama whores who occupy the real world houses? usually because of the houses. i’ll tune in for the first episode if i happen to hear that the season is starting to see the house and furnishings, but honestly even they are less interesting every season, i don’t think they even use Ikea anymore (god i miss ikea). Then sometimes a plot line will grab me; like danny’s eye socket getting busted in the first episode and his mom dying in the second. And this season it’s not the anorexic (blehck, that’s so 90’s), it’s the promise of hurricane rita which hit while they were filming in key west. i’d like to see what happens when seven strangers face a natural disaster and can’t go out and get wasted every night.

“Real World / Road Rules Challenge” - there’s really no excuse for this one. i guess i enjoy watching these douche bags continue to whore themselves out either because they can’t cope without the cameras or they can’t get a real job or both. and often the trainwreck beth, later re-named Osama Beth-ladin, hahahaha really makes a jack ass of herself. but her, timmy, mark, david, montana, and a few others are like my age for chrissake. how embarrasing - get a fucking job!

“Deal or No Deal” - okay it’s not like i tivo it or anything, (okay i have once) but it seems to be on when there’s nothing else on (or maybe it’s just ALWAYS on). i really have no idea why i watch it, i’ve never liked game shows, and i don’t find howie sexy, and it drives me crazy the way they drag these things out, blah, blah, blah, i don’t want to meet these dorks’ families! but i like seeing how the odds work out, then i hear this evil laugh come out when they open all those big money cases. what is wrong with me?

“Dog the Bounty Hunter” - oh my god i hate these people! i can’t tell you which of them is more hateable! they’re hideous, hypocritical, horrible, trashy, trashy people eating up their own hype faster than a&e can crank it out. i HATE them! okay so why watch? please see above (i’ll watch anything filmed in hawaii). but there must be more to it, it must make me feel better about myself and my flat chest and poor spelling.

“CSI: Miami” - i used to love this show, now for us it’s like watching MST3K (if you don’t know what that is, you’re too young). it is literally so bad, it’s comical. once they killed off speedle it went south fast. i hate wolf, i hate delco, and i really hate their forced animosity. but i do giggle at “H” everytime he offers his profile, and puts on his sunglasses of justice then puts his hands on his waist and ends all his sentences with a question. and at this point i actually admire the fact that it gets worse every week.

“er” - i don’t think i need to explain why i hate it, it should be obvious. it’s just plain painful to watch! if we didn’t ffwd thru large chunks of it, specifically anything concerning prat or carrie, i’m pretty sure i would end up in a real er. so why do i watch it? that should be obvious too…

Goran

“Lost” - i have saved the worst for last. i despise j.j. abrams! he is the anti-david chase, the king of inconsistency. and how stupid am i to keep coming back when he has mislead and just plain lied so many times - “all your questions will be answered.” i mean, he trashed “alias” which started out as one of the best, most original shows ever (watch the pilot, you’ve probably forgotten), and i don’t think he ever knew where he was headed with Lost. my favorite character is Sawyer, and in the beginning I hated the whole marlboro man bit but gradually i grew to appreciate him. towards the end of last season i figured out why.. because he hates everyone else as much as i do! actually that’s not true, Sun & Jin are my favorites i really like them and have enjoyed seeing their story develop. but good lord it seems like they’ve been on that island a lifetime! so why do i watch it? because the previews always look like we’re actually going to get somewhere , then nothing ever happens! but mostly because I NEED TO KNOW!! i need to know why locke can walk, i need to know where jack’s dad or his body is, i need to know why hurley’s lotto numbers were on the hatch, i need to know who the others are, i definitely need to know what happened to the guy who was living in the hatch that just happened to know jack went! are they dead? is this purgatory, the bermuda triangle, another planet, the future, what??? the worst part is, i seriously doubt that it will ever be explained (they are saying they may never air the final episodes of alias. isnt that a fine how-do-you-do?). but hey, i’ll watch anything that’s filmed in hawaii. =)
