so for weeks i’ve been bitching about the crap movies they’ve been running at the drive in, and the fact that they’re not even new movies but like three month old movies. well this past weekend they finally offered a brand spankin’ newly released blockbuster…. “Mission Impossible III” woohoo! Tom Cruise, my favorite! And directed or produced or pimped or something by J.J. Abrams (dear god doesn’t he have enough convoluted crap on his plate?) - I hate J.J. he has stolen countless hours of my life. Well, at least with our subversive maneuvers we were partly responsible for the first weekend’s box office being 20 million short of what was projected. And while it wasn’t horrible or unwatchable, it was more like, “mission inconceivable,” (kind of like katie’s pregnancy - hahahahaha)! it was just one pointless action sequence after another, after another, always with like 18 seconds until the whole planet blows up, and just once it would be nice if they gave them like 18 hours or at least 18 minutes and they didn’t run the clock all the way down. Phillip Seymour Hoffman, did play a good villain, and I always love to see Morpheus, but I just can’t stand to see crazy man with his one front tooth (check out the cover of “Entertainment Weekly” this week) on screen, which makes his face like 50 feet tall, for what seemed like three hours even tho i think it was probably just a little over two.
Anywhoo.. the other movie was “Failure to Launch,” which is again a couple months old, but at least it didn’t have Johnny Knoxville or that Napoleon Dynamite kid in it. It was your typical, implausible, romantic comedy, but it had it’s cute and funny moments. So it was okay.
But get this, they’ve already got the schedule up for next weekend and there will be TWO NEW movies on! Two movies that I would actually like to see, “RV” with Robin Williams, and “Poseidon.” But here’s the kicker.. they’re on at the same time on opposite screens! Doh! So we would have to see one after Ice Age 2, again and before a movie with that Napoleon Dynamite kid. OR we could see the other one sandwiched between two showings of MI3. So, no drive in again.. but we had a good time this weekend.
