So David Blaine didn’t break the record for holding his breath, and he didn’t drowned, alive or otherwise, and today he’s already out of the hospital and doing fine - what a gyp! I couldn’t help but think while I was watching, for two hours of my life that I will never get back (fortunately there were sooo many long ass commercial breaks that with a Tivo it was really only about an hour and ten minutes), that it’s not like we would be able to tell if he suffers any brain damage from lack of oxygen, he sounds dumb as a stump now. But he only made it 7 minutes, which in this context is really nowhere near 9 minutes. But then he never quite reaches his goal does he? Or does he??? There is speculation that this is exactly what he and his publicists had planned all along. The following is a direct quote.. “The press release itself says that the event will culminate in a life saving rescue” Also, inside information indicated beforehand that, “the event may very well be rigged to stun — by rigged I don’t expect a successful performance, in fact I would guess that it would be made to appear as though David almost makes the record and then nearly dies, with spectacular life saving rescue.” Apparently, we the TV audience are far more interested in seeing the guy almost die (or pretend to) than seeing him break a record. Besides, if he was able to do it as an amateur who has just been training for a few months, wouldn’t that devalue the whole thing anyway? More inside info… “the spectacular blackout will make it look very real and dangerous — probably creating a massive shock reaction which would increase interest in future attempts — increasing funding, sponsorship and TV interest in future attempts.” Boy are we suckers or what?! I actually already knew that I was so, NBD. But now I know that I’m in the minority, along with all of Great Britain, who just think he’s a loser who never does what he sets out to do. Whatever! Glad we can all move on, until his next public display of idiocracy.
