So, late this afternoon my evening plans suddenly cleared up so we made a mad dash for the giant screen, not the imax, the 70mm screen, spent about $40 bucks between the car and our seats (didn’t have time for dinner first) which were almost too close, but really just close enough to practically be IN the movie without getting motion sickness. It was actually perfect timing, we sat down saw one trailer, for “Lady in the Water” which looks pretty damn exciting but I’m still so pissed off about “The Village” that M. Knight will not be getting any of my money anytime soon (unless of course it’s playing at the drive in), then it started. and to sum things up… I merely had a school-girl crush on the oh so wholesome, boy-next-door, Brandon Routh, before tonight, now I’m totally in lust with Superman! And Brandon Routh IS Superman!

I honestly don’t know what people who don’t like this movie are looking for. Seriously! It’s exciting, it’s fun, it’s funny, it’s intense, it’s sexy, and He’s HOT!! And I am not that easy (shut up, jkt). Seriously! I was totally prepared to be disappointed I am very cynical, and usually the bigger the hype the bigger the disappointment! And while I thoroughly enjoy bad cinema, especially bad action flicks, which is why you’ll hear me say “”The Transporter II” rocked” or “I can’t wait to see “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,”" and I’m one of the few people who liked “Domino,” - this isn’t like that. This really is a good movie! There were a few times when, even tho I knew everything would be fine in the end, I was very tense. Also even tho I’ve watched every trailer multiple times, seen every clip on every talk show, and every behind the scenes show that’s been on, I was still surprised, even startled, several times. It was just good!
And for a point of reference, here is a list of some of my favorite movies, action movies or otherwise (so it may be all over the place), in no particular order:
Superman Returns (hee, hee)
Pulp Fiction
Heat
The Matrix
The Matrix Reloaded
Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Ocean’s Eleven
Rear Window
Last of the Mohicans
Boondock Saints
Donnie Darko
Goodfellas
Made
The Crow
Finding Nemo
All About Eve
Fargo
Planes, Trains, & Automobiles
Vacation
of course anything John Hughes related (no choice, i’m a child of the 80’s)
..hope that helps.
so to sum up, two thumbs up, five stars, “fresh” (by rottentomatoes.com standards), “Superman Returns” is excellent! go see it!
