So, the explosion / fire last night that we thought was between houses was only between houses because it was actually an ENTIRE HOUSE that exploded. The house that was in between the two houses that were scorched up was completely gone. How does that happen? Here’s the report from the local NBC news station:

Investigators say due to the extent of the damage, they cannot confirm whether there are other victims. The incident occurred just after midnight, early Saturday morning in the 8200 block of South Jasmine Court, adjacent to County Line Road. Crews from South Metro Fire were dispatched just before 12:30 a.m. and say they could see flames immediately after leaving their station on Quebec and Dry Creek.

crimescene1.jpgWhen crews arrived, there was smoke and ash in the air and a wall of flames which totally engulfed the home and was beginning to spread to the homes either side, according to fire crews. Fire crews say they focused on protecting the adjacent homes as the house, which was engulfed in the blaze, was deemed a total loss. Both adjacent houses sustained some fire damage, but the residents were able to evacuate safely, authorities say.

Fire crews from South Metro and Littleton say they were able to contain the fire within an hour, but spent another two hours putting out hot spots and searching for victims. Investigators from South Metro and Arapahoe County Sheriff’s office are both expected to be on scene for most of the day on Saturday.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the blaze, and because one person is confirmed dead, police are treating the area as a crime scene. The victim’s identity was not immediately released.

Authorities say the blaze was a two-alarm fire with about 50 firefighters trying to put out the fire. A portion of County Line Road was closed while firefighters battled the blaze, and because roofing and nails had been blown from the house onto the road.
