so remember when i said i was shopping for a suitcase but instead i bought a car?… i was looking for a suitcase to take to seattle. we went last week, here are the highlights:
but first, before we left it was like 50 degrees and raining for 3 days in denver. that NEVER happens! so we assumed it was getting us prepped for the stereotypical seattle climate. however, from the time we arrived to the time we left not a drop of rain fell, there was barely a cloud in the sky, it was clear & sunny & warm. wtf?!
anywhoo as soon as we got there i began my new career as a hair model! the friend we went to visit works as a rep for a salon brand of hair care products and they were conducting a coloring class and m & i have about 6 feet of hair between us. four hours later, we looked fabulous!! i would love to show you pictures of what we’re now calling my stripper hair (in a nice way), but that would require showing pictures of me and well, that’s not gonna happen. trust me, it’s hot! and it fit’s my new (previously-owned) car because both are too young for me! hmmm… could be my second mid-life crisis. if so, hopefully i’ll find a nice, young, hot guy to ride in my car. oh, i guess i can show you a picture of the car in question, here ya go..

anywhoo, day two, or as i like to call it, the international incident… we headed north to vancouver, eh! i had done all the research to know what the requirements are to drive across the border with your dog since of course Kylie had to go, and i had all her paperwork in order, and of course it’s common knowledge now that you need a passport to go so i verified weeks ago that my passport was still valid. however we get there and of course they don’t ask for Kylie’s paperwork, and i don’t have mine!! doh! so i dig thru my purse several times, search the floor of the car and my passport is not there, so the cannuck at the border asks me lots of questions and lets me go thru. so we’re good, right? right, but when we’re leaving and the guy at the u.s. border says, “welcome to Canada!” so i’m squirming and thinking well, at least i beat the rush if hilary gets elected in 08, and i’m trying to think of how many u.s. president’s i could name and who won the world series, ever, but all he wanted to know was where i was born and he gave me a pass. whew! so we’re good, right? right, until we pulled away and then realized that the guy at the gate kept m’s passport. doh! so we had to go to the next exit which was ridiculously far and turn around and go back thru the canada side and explain the situation, so they told us to park and go in the office, so we did and rude canadians told us we were on the wrong side and we had to walk a mile to go back to the u.s. office, finally somebody there said, no, they can drive, so we did and we explained the situation again because the same guy of course wasn’t at a gate anymore - because an hour had passed by now - so they told us to go in the office again where we explained again and got the passport, with a small apology and a bright orange get out of canada free pass that we had to present before we could go. so what did i learn from all this?? friendly border my ass!! there is a lot of hostility up there at the “peace portal!” ok, and also i learned make sure you have your passport before you get to the border. by the way, i called to find out if & how to report my passport missing because it’s supposubly a matter of national security and all, but the recording told me i had to either go in an office or send in some paperwork, so i decided to wait until i got home where i found my passport safely under some clothes that i decided not to take at the last minute.
so anyway, we did the typical tourist stuff in seattle - space needle, public market, ikea (what, doesn’t everybody go to ikea on vacation?). it was all really cool, except that it was actually really warm, almost hot even, but i guess i covered the weather already.
oh, and let’s not forget jack in the box! we also plan entire trips around jack in the box and fortunately, there were plenty in the evergreen state but one night we had shopped thru the dinner hour, at ikea, and were starving when we got to the drive thru and then we waited and waited and waited while the car in front of us screwed around and finally pulled away without any food. so when we get to the window we got an apology and two extra bags at no charge because of the four people in the car in front of us, nobody had enough cash or a valid credit card to pay for their order. how is that possible? then as we were pulling out there was some gang shit about to go down. a car pulled in the drive thru in front of us head first fast and a guy got out and walked up really close to our car and was looking in at everybody, it was kinda creepy, then he kept walking and was looking at everybody in the next car and the car he got out of had backed up but another car had pulled in behind it and some other punk lookin’ white guys got out and were walking up and we took our curly fries and went home.
man.. our trips are never dull!
we also toured pasado’s safe haven, the animal shelter, which was awesome, and we rode a ferry boat! so over all it was a good trip.
oh, and for the first time ever in the history of our many trips, and our many, many flights for business or for pleasure… we missed our flight. i know, it happens all the time, but not to us. we could blame the terrorist plot in germany, or the whole country being on fire, and the traffic was pretty sucky, but we just totally underestimated how much time we needed to get to the airport. but we learned that it’s not tragic, there was a flight three hours later that had way more room on it, so we stretched out and dozed off and all’s well that ends well! you can check out the photos on kylie’s flickr stream!
