besides there was a much more significant event that week.. my birthday! and for my birthday, in addition to being able to witness the dnc, i also got two flat tires and a speeding ticket, oh and a big zit on my chin!

yay, 39!! (yes, that’s right 39 (for the first time) and still getting zits. blerg!!)

oh well, they can’t all be champagne and roses, and on the bright side.. if this keeps up i’ll actually be looking forward to turning 40!

ps: i did also spend a couple of very nice evenings with friends, and i have really great friends! what more could one ask for?

don’t know about you but I find right to lifers way more scary than tanks!

holy crap! when i was younger and had more energy that would have just made me want to run out and get an abortion! now i’ll simply defer to my favorite bumper sticker – “against abortion? don’t have one.”

ugh.. is it over yet??

anyway we left downtown and got on the highway. i was in the center lane in the celica, there was an accident in the right lane, a bus pulled over in front of me so i couldn’t see the rather large, black, metal object in the road until i ran over it and got two flat tires! me and about 6-10 other cars, and since you only carry one spare we all had to call for tow trucks. we were actually lucky it only took about 40 minutes for ours to get there in which time we saw two foxes (which was odd because we were very much in the city) and are pretty sure we heard four gunshots.

regardless, we got home safely, but it reminded me a day several years ago when i found myself in three tow trucks in one day!

i was on my way to work at the mall when my civic died, the water pump broke. so i got a tow to our mehanic’s place. but i kind of thought i was in luck because m’s car happened to be there already because she had some minor repair work done. so i called work and told them what happened and headed in, but i got half way there and the clutch went out.

no way! so i call another tow truck and head back to harry’s (that’s our mechanic). he wasn’t going to rush to replace the water pump, but he made some calls and got one asap and i took off again.

i don’t even remember what happened that time, but you guessed it…

i know, right?! the really amazing thing is that i actually eventually went to work! i had to, i needed the money!

the question now is… how do you go and get new tires when you’ve got two flat tires??

add a sweltering, paralyzing heat wave, including 24 consecutive days above 90 degrees.

+ the f’ing olympics, and you know i hate the olympics.

and now the damn dnc is starting the day after the olympics – IN DENVER!!

so we’re like little china now. protestors are being restricted to these giant cages and they’ve converted warehouses near downtown into jails with cells made of chain link fence with razor wire along the top and all. people are losing their fucking minds! the aclu is suing the democratic national convention. and they’re shutting down the entire city all day/night when obama makes his official acceptance at the stadium.

like a year ago when we became aware the convention would be here, we said we really need to make sure we are out of town. well then we went and bought a house (oh yeah, lets add to the equation my jacked-up house, blerg!) so we’re not going anywhere, possibly until around the time of the next olympics.

so instead of avoiding the situation, we headed straight into the thick of it and went downtown to have dinner with friends on the eve of opening day! woo-hoo! and while we’re sitting at a red light and the traffic is crawling by in front of us, a DPD SUV went by with 8 occifers riding on the running boards, IN FULL RIOT GEAR.

holy crap!! somebody commented “geezus, we’re living in a police state.” to which our republican friend replied, “well, get used to it if obama gets elected.” (for the record he doesn’t like mccain either, he’s writing somebody in. we suggested kylie!)

but literally we’ve broken a record and then some in denver by having 19 days over 90 degrees and counting..

the first five or six we tried to be tough and kept the a/c set as warm as we could stand and opening windows in the evenings. then at some point we decided screw it – we had insisted on buying a house with air conditioning so we wouldn’t have to suffer. plus we assumed it would only be another few days, maybe a week of hellish heat, that’s how it usually works around here. but this week once the record was shattered and we were heading towards 100 degree days, we headed underground…

..to the basement where is stays about 8 degrees cooler than upstairs. so we keep the thermostat b/w 82-85 all day and until an hour or so before bedtime and we hang out down here. it’s not exactly like we’re roughing it, we’ve got cable & internet, a bathroom, a futon, even a pachinko machine. there is no wii or ps2 however, or dvd player, so it’s our version of roughing it. plus its like being in a vegas casino where you lose all concept of time. but, whadda you gonna do?

i’m gonna have a stroke when i see the electric bill, that’s what!

then there’s the complete lack of entertainment.. blerg, i hate summer!

for what it’s worth, which is nothing, i’m always blogging in my head. especially when i’m sitting in traffic, or on hold, or you know, working. like yesterday.. i’m driving and i exit the highway, i’m in the lane to turn left, the left turn arrow is green, but the car in front of me stops – at a green light! i honk a little. the car sits there, i wait to see some hazard lights or the hood pop up, but nothing.. i honk again, the car sits. when traffic clears i whip around the car, i look at the driver who’s of course ON THE PHONE, and barely make it through before the light turns red. then the stopped car follows me through the light which would have then been totally red. i was of course cussing like tony soprano. i get into the right lane to turn at the next intersection, so does that damn car. i turn right, again on yellow, she turned right on red – this time without stopping. then i’m going about 42 in a 40 mph zone and she flies past me, still ON THE PHONE! wtf??!

anyway, until i get myself a brain-to-blog download, poor princessglenda.com will likely continue to be somewhat neglected. sorry.

she was in the car with that sam lutfi guy, former manager slash hanger-oner, as they approached her house she suddenly got out of the car crying, carrying her poor yorkie named london (Brit must have got that british accent from the dog), and uncharacteristically asking the paparazzi to leave her alone, which of course they did not. she sat down on the curb crying, supposubly called Adnan, her boyfriend slash stalker, begging “baby, can you come pick me up.” but before he arrived she had gone inside and when he got there he was denied entry. he tried calling all SIX of Brit’s cell phones but no luck. he was getting text messages from Sam that because he is a “manic trigger” for Brit he needs to leave her alone. [ah-ha!! that's intervention speak.] so the police were called to the premises either to get him to leave or to get all the paparazzi to back off because of course they were swarming and so were the helicopters by now.

oh! funny story… last time the choppers were overhead, nearby neighbor, george clooney said he thought there must be some escaped convict roaming the hood. he was a little concerned. then when he learned his proximity to britney’s house, he was a lot concerned, he apparently had no idea and reportedly is now planning to move – soon!

anyway.. back to the crazy.. so it had already been reported that Britney’s mom, Lynn, and dad, Jamie (hence the name and fate of poor little, Jamie Lynn Spears) were both in town – odd since Brit has had nothing to do with either of them of late. well, they were both at her house, as was her best friend slash cousin, Alli.

so personally, i think it’s INTERVENTION time! and obviously they wouldn’t want Adnan, the leech slash bipolar-enabler to be there. tho apparently they did eventually let him in – i’m guessing they caved in to Brit on the issue, which does not bode well for their intervention technique – plus they took her to Long’s Drugs and while I personally really miss shopping at Long’s Drugs, I’m pretty sure you can’t get PROZAC over the counter, at least not yet. so we’ll see how it goes…

oh.. funny story.. turns out jeff vandickhead, one of the primary interventionists on the show “intervention,” is not even an addict — he’s just a churchy!!! he got his training at some church program! what a crock! and i thought i couldn’t hate him more. but that does explain why he seems drunk himself half the time.

the wii has been a big help however i’m finding i have a bit of a motion sickness issue with a lot of games, which is just fantastic – yet another symptom of an aging genX-er. like that elebits game, which is award winning and i certainly see the appeal, you get to trash the place and shoot at little things that sound like kittens (which, ok makes me feel a little guilty), it’s fun, but about 15 min in.. Buhlaaah! currently i’m struggling with soul calibur. we read that it helps to chew gum while you play so i am but i’m barely coordinated enough to walk and chew gum let alone chew gum and try to kick some dragon’s ass! fortunately it only makes me a little nauseous, not like i’m gonna hurl. but i digress..

where was i? oh yeah…

PLEEEEEAZZE! you have to compromise at some point because i just can’t watch american gladiators. but people are, and they’ll watch big brother, so the networks will not lose any sponsorship or money. you sadly do not have the bargaining power that you should. i mean i hate to tell ya but dave, and john, and stephen are doing just fine. you’re gonna hafta bend!
